WORLD SUPERBIKE CHAMPIONSHIP - ROUND 10 BRANDS HATCH, GREAT BRITAIN: Race Report, Sunday, July 28 GODDARD BRUISES HAND IN CRASH AT BRANDS HATCH Australia's Peter Goddard today suffered a bruised right hand when he crashed in the 10th round of the World Superbike Championship at Brands Hatch in Great Britain. The 38-year-old from Wollongong fell from his works three-cylinder Benelli Tornado 900 on the opening lap of the second of the two 25-lap races after contact with the DFX Ducati of Italian Alessandro Antonello. However, Goddard said he expected to be fit for scheduled test sessions with Benelli at the Misano circuit in Italy on August 2 and 22, and for the next championship round at Oschersleben in Germany on September 1. In the first race at Brands Hatch, Goddard finished 18th, three positions outside championship points. He clocked a best lap time of 1-min 29.455-secs in the race. Goddard has scored championship points six times from 12 starts in this year's series. American Colin Edwards won both races at Brands Hatch on a Castrol Honda. Australia's Troy Bayliss retained the championship lead with 441 points on an Infostrada Ducati, and is followed by Edwards on 402. PETER GODDARD QUOTES: "I was 'snotted' in the first turn of race two when outside Antonello. He just stood it up and took my brake lever and handlebar with him, slamming me into the ground. I have badly bruised my right hand, but am lucky to have such little damage as the fantastic Alpinestars glove took the main impact – it was destroyed, but that is exactly its job. Hopefully my hand will be good for the August 2 test at Misano. We have two tests planned for engine updates that should improve both performance and reliability. This weekend was tough. For some reason our engines were 5-10km/h slower through the (speed) trap than last year. At Laguna (Seca) we had our strongest engines all year so it's difficult to understand."
